Jordi Labanda Inspired
Quick post on one of my latest sketches. This one is inspired by one of my favorite artists Jordi Labanda; he is a modern day artist and you can check out his work on www.jordilabanda.com
Here's my take on one of his pieces which I later filtered using the X-Pro II filter on Instagram.
Be kind, it's one of my first sketches! =)

How will the PIPA or SOPA affect us?
PIPA stands for the Protect IP Act, while SOPA is the Stop Online Piracy Act. I discuss this because not only has it been brought up in two of my Anthropology classes- Anthropology of Media and Contemporary Social Problems- but because we witnessed a widespread shut down of several websites that many of us are heavy users of, the most significant one being Wikipedia.
Here is a video that will demonstrate what the PIPA/SOPA are exactly. Ironically, the video below, is a link to YouTube which would probably be one of the most affected sites, if these bills were to pass.
What are your thoughts on this?

Post Holiday
Hello everyone,
It seems that I only ever find time to write a post at the beginning of every semester. So the last one came and went, and now here I am starting another semester, which brings me to this blog. As previously noted, twitter has been the culprit for the lack of quality writing in my life, not to mention the hectic schedule that I had to keep the past couple of months. I trust that everyone's had a wonderful holiday. Christmas, Hannukah or whatever it is you are celebrating, and of course New Year.
I realized from reading my last blog post that so much has happened since I last wrote so I thought it's a new year and perhaps a little update won't hurt. I guess the biggest one so far is that I quit my other job after two and a half weeks. It was very stressful working so early in the mornings and I just couldn't cope. Fortunately, I got accepted into another job on campus and it's definitely up my alley in terms of meeting people, better hours and just way more fun. I'm currently working as a Front of House staff at the Performing Arts Center on campus and basically, I get paid to talk to people and watch the show. I've had a very busy semester, school-wise, but a wonderful winter break. Although it was not spent with family, I had a great time in the company of friends.
But what really brings me back to this blog is the fact that I am currently taking an Anthropology of Media class which discusses the different types of media used today and their social context. I'm not quite sure yet what the class will be about, but it seemed interesting enough. The course description so far has mentioned, a bunch of articles to read, essays to write, films to watch, blogs to keep up and such.
All in all, I'm looking forward to blogging more this year (perhaps that's a new year's resolution right there) and just keeping up with other things other than school, work and Zumba. It's always good to strike a balance between different things, something I've never been good at. Here's to a better and balanced year.
I wish everyone happiness, health and an amazing 2012!

Busy Days
With the end of summer and pre-school activities, things have definitely been hectic all around. Now that I have settled into a somewhat regular schedule, I decided to update the blog and talk about life's happenings.
First off, getting a twitter account this summer is probably the main reason as to why I have had irregular posts on here. It's been a quicker go-to for things that are happening around me and things I've been meaning to write about. With that said, I still intend to maintain this blog and write deeper, meaningful things on it as opposed to what's been trending.
My writing has kinda been all over the place lately, meaning I should probably pick up a book soon other than my psych textbooks. This post is definitely not structured in any way. But oh well, it's my little spot on the web to ramble.
Also, Zumba isn't something new that's happening in my life, but something I've been meaning to write about in awhile. It's just a great way of keeping fit and such a fun way to do cardio, especially among friends. It's like an hour long dance party, and you're definitely sweating by the end of it all. So good for those people who like me don't enjoy being on a machine for an hour to burn off those calories.
One more thing- I got a job! *drumroll please* Given that they're 7 am shifts, I'm not a happy camper at that time of the day, since I'm so nocturnal. But a job is a job! POSITIVE OUTCOMES ONLY- my new mantra as I tweeted awhile back on my twitter account. Sounds like I got it out of Hellcats and yes I kinda did but haven't really used it until later on.
So with school, Zumba, the job and catching up with people, my plate's a little full lately. I'm hoping it doesn't catch up to me by the time midterms and such roll around.
Hope everyone's been keeping nice and busy (in a productive way of course). 'Til the next post! xoxo

An early taste of DECEMBER(KID)
Summer time = Music time! I don't know about you, but my lull time during the summer months consists of discovering new music or organizing my itunes. I'm not going to say that I am some music expert, especially with only a thousand or so songs in my collection. But I do enjoy much of the mainstream stuff that permeates the radio waves and much of the clubbing scene. I always have a rule with songs or music that I like, it's a pretty simple one too- it has to have lyrics. Hence, despite the recent popularity of the Electronic Dance Music industry, I stay true to my love for music that have words to them. Call me old-fashioned but I enjoy the song better when it's something I can sing along to (more of my Flip side coming out?).
Nevertheless, there are certain exceptions to the rule and one of my best finds for Summer 2011 thus far is DECEMBERKID (Hello, Ikhsan!). Most of his songs have words to them- grrreat; but even the parts that don't are so cleverly mixed and synced with their respective bpm's, it's hard to stop listening. DECEMBERKID's current tracks can surely entice even the most discerning music-lover.
He currently has four tracks- The Unlikely Relief, Amen Break, Sucio and Airborne. Have a listen to one or all of them on his soundcloud account at http://soundcloud.com/decemberkid, or catch him at your fave hang-out spot. He could very well be the next big thing.
Happy listening!
